As much as I love the cooler days of fall, I do not love the days getting shorter and night falling at 5:00 PM.
But instead of sitting around under a blanket and complaining about it, this year I’ve decided to embrace the change and implement a few simple ways to make my home cozier.
- Added the fluffiest comforter I own to my bed. It’s so warm that sometimes I wake up sweating. Haha!
- I checked out some fiction from the library. It’s curling up with a good book season!
- Fall cleaned and decluttered my space. What a better time to clean and declutter than before guests arrive for the holidays?
- Stocked my pantry with easy, warming foods like soup and tea.
- Switched out the light bulbs in my bedroom’s fixture for Philips Smart Wi-Fi LED light bulbs.
That last tip made the biggest impact because I can now use an app on my phone to brighten the lights for reading or dim the lights for watching TV. I love the warm glow of the lights. I love that I no longer have to fish around behind my bed for the cord to turn off the lights. I can just tap the app on my phone!
As someone who is terrible at setting her own bedtime and waking up in the morning – especially with the time changing – I love the fact that I can set a time for the lights to turn off at night, and on in the morning, through the app. It’s just the nudge I need to go to sleep and wake up in the morning.
Now tell me, how do you prepare your home for the cooler, darker days?
